Residence 50

  • Project Name : Residence 50
  • Location : Keshav Nagar, Udaipur
  • Site area : 4800 Sq.Ft
  • Built-up area :
  • Status : Completed, 2018
  • Award : Dream Home Award- 2019

For the Residence 50, we explored the teachings of Basic Design, playing with forms, space, volumes, and planes. The concept centers around creating a home that marries functionality with the feeling of unique spaces. A 20-foot high ceiling in the dining room, for example, creates an open, skyward perspective, and the interplay of shadows brings the home to life.

This residence, built on a 70′ X 60′ site, creates a connection between interior and exterior. Upon entry, a wooden cuboid marks the guest entrance, leading into a 14’ X 14’ X 14’ cube-shaped formal drawing room. The living space flows into a double-height dining area that overlooks a beautifully designed garden, which extends seamlessly into the home.

A striking feature of this design is the double-height glazed wall, which invites natural light and shadows into the house, bringing the greenery from outside into the core living space. The pergola creates a dynamic play of shadows, enhancing the sense of openness. Private spaces are strategically placed at the back, surrounding the central living area for privacy and serenity.

Design Development:

  • Step 1: Activities were planned using 9 Vastu Blocks.
  • Step 2: The central block was opened up to incorporate the garden into the home.
  • Step 3: The drawing room was designed as a perfect cube.
  • Step 4: One of the boxes was opened up, creating the double-height space.
  • Step 5: A cantilevered pergola was added, slicing through the mass to create a captivating play of shadows.
