Residence_60 is located in Navratan Complex, Udaipur. The plot is North facing 30’x60‘. The project is designed as an independent house at two levels. This house is our success story of collaborating with the Clients. The Owner Mrs Kanupriya Prabhakar worked closely with us, creating the ambience.
1. Design Approach – We developed the space relating to her vision of home. The idea was to provide opulent light filled spaces. From outside it follows Country House style brick-cladded look. An angled car porch slices through the brick façade creating the drama. Above is a terrace attached with the Master bedroom.
2. Design Development – One enters the double-height Living Area through a big arched door made in wood. Insides are done in bright Yellow to create warmth of an Indian Home. The art of formation and colors are interlinked to achieve extra from an ordinary space. The height of this space creates the unexpected wow-factor. And the narrow skylights add to it. A part of the process of building design is interplay of Architecture and Sun. In hot areas like ours, we design to provide comfort from solar heat. Having a North Façade doesn’t give direct Sun in, so SkylightSlits are provided in taper roof for sunlight to penetrate.
3. Light and Shadow – This creates a movement of light beams on the walls, throughout the day. The shadows dance on otherwise static and lifeless walls. At PAA, we experiment with this parameter; we have introduced skylights in dark areas of residences, making people look up for light. Ground floor has Formal drawing room, Parent’s room and Living Spaces. On upper level, there are three bedrooms and a cozy sit-out space, overlooking the living area. In interiors, bright colors are used to Indianise the space. Wooden ceiling with mirror work hangs above dining table. Minimalistic restraint is followed in remaining furniture design.
